Dina Matos McGreevey Divorce
Gary L. Borger, Esq. was interviewed by Channel 6 Action News on August 11 when
the trial judge reported her ruling on the high profile divorce of
former Governor James McGreevey and Dina Matos. Gary discussed New
Jersey alimony law and why Ms. Matos is to receive no alimony from her
now-former husband. The segment aired that night; our website will
carry the video when it becomes available.
This high-conflict divorce and custody case has generated many interesting issues, particularly in the gay community. One particular
concern is whether the income and assets of a gay parent's partner can
be considered in fixing alimony and child support in a New Jersey
divorce proceeding. In the McGreevey case, the judge did increase Mr. McGreevey's child support obligation based on the enhanced lifestyle the
McGreeveys' daughter has when with her father due to her father's
partner's high income and consequent ability to provide a more lavish
lifestyle to the child when she is in her father's custody.
